The -ologies

Friday afternoon/evenings (aka right NOW) I head out on my long run for the week, but last Friday I got a mile into it and had to stop and hobble back home.  I originally thought IT band problems, but after much research I think it's my bicep femoris due to location and symptoms of my pain.  It's a knee pain, but much too low to be IT band.
I've been out for a long week rolling, icing and stretching, and plan to give it a shot on Monday.  If it's a no go then I'll probably call my doctor (though I know he'll send me to PT which my co-pay is so dang expensive).

I found out this week that I can be quite irritable while sidelined (sorry Benny).  I really hope this passes quickly so I can still get to the start of the 1/2 in 5 weeks.  :(  We have some big goals for the next six months of racing as a finale hoo-rah for the time being, and the weather is starting to become beautiful for running!  Come on leeeeeg.
Rykar thinks that rolling is doggy play time.

Instead of a long run,... The -ologies.  Let others know a little more about yourself, re-post this as your name, followed by "ology".

Freaky Fall

Happy fall!!

Summer has officially dwindled, so that means we're getting close to [Halloween, Thanksgiving] Christmas!  I can't wait until November when I can blast Christmas music without being judged.  Overflowing with Christmas cheer for more than 1.5 months should be invited behavior.  Christmas rocks.

Yesterday we didn't even hit 90 degrees on our first day of fall.  It was really a beautiful, breezy day!  Last night it got into the 60s and was pretty cold when I took Rykar out this morning.

The weather has been cool at night that one morning I went all "fall is in the air!!" crazy, and opened the windows and door.  Oh this is so nice now.  Long forgotten are the triple double temps or record 120 degree days.  I love EVERYTHING about Arizona!

Then this happened...
This crafty you know what, found his way in through the window.  LAME!!  I went hunting for them the night before and couldn't even find one outside.  This creeper found a gap in the window screen.  I assumed screens left no gaps, but they do... or ours do.  But not for long do they.

Only things that glowed on my hunt were my nails.

The heebie geebies faded over the duration of a couple of weeks, and I eventually gained back my confidence in Arizona.  I love everything about Arizona!!

Then this happened...
It's kind of gory.  My apologies.  :(  I don't mind snakes so much... unless they are rattlesnakes in my front yard.  I realize we live in the desert, and in a newer, less-developed area with many open fields and nearby preserves, but this is NOT SAFE.  [I do know Rykar's vet carries the anti-venom.]

Well, I love most everything about Arizona...
I love Arizona Winter??

An always fun thing about the temps cooling back down (besides no scorpions and other desert creepers) is we get hot air balloons flying overhead!   Reminds me of childhood living in Kansas City.
Another always fun thing is birthday shoes.  I returned my amazing Taylor Says since they run very small.  :(
I had to pick a new pair, and it just happened to be a Buy One Get One 1/2 when I did so, so I got two pair and still saved a dollar.
Every shoe has a different awesome sole.
And these beauties...

We are six weeks away from our next 1/2, one of these two:

I've slowly been adding some more aggressive pacing into my runs because I'm ready to progress and I have a good base.  When I run faster my legs usually object, and this time hasn't been any different.

I haven't run 7:30-8:00/miles in a long, long time, and last week I was stoked to push myself.  However, my IT band is SO TIGHT.  I have been stretching and rolling but it's rejecting recovery in the time frame I gave it.
I had to quit 1/2 mile into my long run Friday because of my knee.  UGH.  That lead to pure diet disaster for the weekend.  (Seriously, I had two Smores Frozen Hot Chocolates.)
I pushed my long run back a day, but this weekend we had fun guests come stay from Thatcher (the Sandaus!!), so I decided to nix it.  It's stressful, but a couple of days sure beats a couple of weeks.

Ben is running on a schedule for the first time in life!!  I'm so excited for him to tackle that sub 1:30 half.
That's really not all.  But that's all for now!  Have a fantastic Monday, especially since it's practically over.  :]

Time to test out my left knee.

9.14.13 <---- 2nd Parental Wedding in 1 Year!

Here are a couple more pictures of my dad and Laura's big day, September 14, 2013.

They had the reception /open house the night before the wedding.
They were married in the Bountiful, Utah temple at 11:15am.
After the wedding ceremony we all hung outside and waited for the bride and groom to come on out and make their official debut.  The weather was perfect!  It was a tad chilly, overcast, with the sun occasionally poking through.  It rained later in the day so I think that means they still get the rainy wedding day good luck, right?

Grandpa is so cute.  I'm so happy he could come and we could see him.  I wish I could have caught up with him but he disappeared and now I'm kicking myself.  Ugh.  Love my gpa!!
Us four had a grand ole time over the weekend.  Hanging out.  Squishing in the truck cab everywhere we went.  Grand time.
[My runway skills are sub par, at best.]
Here they come, looking so happy!
The luncheon immediately followed, at Canterbury, where we met up with the rest of the crew.  [Seriously Canterbury is THE BEST minus the dimmer lighting in some areas.]  Aunt Lez sang background music and we all visited and basked in the bride and groom's newly wedded happiness.  It was a pleasant time.  Once again, congrats to the bride and groom!
Any event wouldn't be complete without jumping pictures.
And break dancing.
Today my dad says they are doing great and are very blessed.  :]

Have a nice rest of the downhill to the weekend.  Thank goodness!

Weddings + Birthdays + Family

It was another really busy weekend out of state.  Friday morning we flew up to Utah because Saturday my dad got married in Bountiful!  13 years of a bachelor life are finally over for him, so we're very happy to see him so happy.  Yay.  My dad deserves to be so happy!

I only snapped a few pictures, so this is the abridged version, thus more are to come.  My sister has the fancy shmancy camera so she gets to be photographer for everything.

The ceremony was beautiful!  We must have not had the right time frame, because Jolie, James, Ben and I were one of the last ones to arrive (haha we totally stopped for Monster on our way there), but thankfully we still were able to sit in the front row to watch them be sealed, which was an amazing experience.  Congratulations to the happy couple!

James forgot church shoes and wore Ben's.  In Cali a couple of weeks ago, James forgot all church clothes and borrowed from a missionary in the ward.  Once when we went to Vegas with my mom, James forgot any pair of shoes and walked around in socks.  Hahaha.

It was wonderful to talk to my cousin and her hub.  They're expecting their first this winter.

Pretend my eyes are open.

What a hunk I married.

The wedding reception/open house was the night before at my dad's house (memory capture fail on my end), but the luncheon followed the wedding ceremony, and it was at Canterbury!!  It was a great day.  We also didn't know if Grandpa Hales would make it, but he was wheeled into the waiting area in the temple, and we all were so happy and excited to see him.

I did sneak up into the bride's room to reminisce our big day when my bridesmaids and I spent time up here.  Our wedding planner still works at Canterbury, so it was fun to see her after almost three years.

We bid our farewells after lunch, and headed to happy valley to see my mom and Jeff.  It's her birthday the 16th so we decided to celebrate, and we stopped at Wal-Mart to get celebratory items on our way.

We planned to sneak up to the front door so we could blast her with shooters/confetti, but when we turned the corner to her street, she and Jeff were standing on the curb talking to people.  Bah!

So we drove on by and didn't look at them and they totally saw us and my mom started waving like crazy and we were all dying in the truck pretending we didn't see them.  We drove down the street and put on our party hats and attire, drove back to the house, and jumped out and blasted her with party-ness.  It was quite hilarious.

My mom is so cute.  Jeff bought her new handlebars and a cushioned seat for her dirt bike.  They apparently go every Saturday.

If you buy these candles, you must have the birthday girl (or boy) blow them out quickly.
Happy Birthday mom!!

It was a great family weekend time!

This little munchkin spent the weekend at the puppy place.  Since he's neutered, he got to have lots of play time with friends.  He was pretty stoked to see us though.  And in reverse.  :]
Phew.  Now we're ready for a weekend.  Have a happy Monday!
