My Mom's Engaged! And life.

Saturday morning my lil brother text me that Jeff was going to pop the question that night!  So all evening I awaited the news!

He took her to The Roof, where they had their first date, and proposed!!  They have it on video, but I haven't seen it yet.  But the ring is gorgeous!  And they are looking at a 2012 wedding.  Soon!

Congratulations to the happy couple!
Welcome to the family, Jeff!  (He is cool.)
So we've lived in the city a whole three+ months and just love it.  We've started to house hunt because we want to live here for a long time, so it's time to buy when our lease is up.
Recently we went to dinner with some new friends, and they have seen about one scorpion in their new home each month.  Listening to their horror stories about not feeling comfortable in their own home is a good reminder that we don't want to do that again.  Building would be fun, but new construction up here can have those nasty buggers for awhile.  Who knows where we'll end up.
Lots of homes here have pools but I don't know if I want to worry about our own.  A community pool would be nice.  But I do want this fake grass stuff.  And I think these little tiny pools are super cute.
This is my adorable puppy.
This (these, if you spot Comet) is my sister's pup.
Instead of going to track tonight, I'm blogging (and eating).  The doc said no running until my xray results come back clean, which will probably be tomorrow.  I'm working with a physical therapist and if there's no progress in a few weeks, then I'll have an MRI on my leg.

I hope the xrays come back clean, but I have a hunch they will!!  Apparently xrays often give good news with stress fractures, even if they're lying.  lol

X marks the spot.  6 months of problems, spot.
Since my mom got engaged and is now planning a wedding, Ben and I were chatting about how this time two years ago we were planning ours and how much fun, work and stress it was!!  Gawsh.

Old news, but fun to look at... wedding dress shopping via the wedding blog.  I copied/pasted so the spacing is funky.

The final fitting.

Before I changed the neck (below):

Below is the dress BEFORE my hoop petticoat.

Ben was 100% involved in picking my dress.  One of the best decisions.

Second favorite dress! Really pretty too...

A couple others:

And tadah.  Freakin' fun memories!!!

Good luck to my sis at the Tinkerbell 1/2 this weekend.  She's going for sub 2:00!

Running Survey!!

I'm re-living the fun through this running survey since I'm sidelined at the moment. Sad face.

What is your favorite type of cross training?
I love Zumba and dance!! But I like strength training that makes me super sore.

What is your favorite song to run to?
It changes. But I listened to "Standing Outside the Fire" by Garth Brooks as I crossed the finish line of SLC, and a few times on repeat. That song totally rocks and I'm a proud country music loving, Buhr.

What brand of shoes do you wear?
All my running shoes right now are Asics.  Thank goodness they are finally getting the memo that color is fun.

Do you wear a hat when you run?
It's too hot now. In the winter sometimes.  Fun fact:  I have a small head (don't draw any conclusions) so I have to wear children's hats.
This hat is boys.

What temperature is your favorite for running?
< 60, most importantly it has to be cloudy

Do you have any big races coming up?
Yes, but I'm worried I won't be trained, so I'm not posting about them quite yet.

What is your favorite distance?
Not the 5k. lol

Are you a morning, noon, or evening runner?
Evening.  I'm a grump in the morning.

Do you run solo or with a buddy?
Solo or with the hub, but hopefully more with groups this fall.

What is your favorite post run snack?
OJ and I like Syntha-6 cookies and cream protein shakes alright.

What is your favorite race?
I like the ones with lots of hype and festivities. I also like short races that give out medals to every finisher because that is so fun.

Do you wear a Garmin? If not, how do you track your distance?
Garmin 110
I wear it watch face facing in because it's much less annoying to look at the inside of your wrist than twist your arm and look at the outside when you check your pace as much as I wish I didn't.

What is my least favorite race?
Ones that aren't easily marked.

Where is your favorite medal from?
SLC Marathon
It's gold.

How long have you been a runner?
15 years, but 1-1/2 years of "real" training (good AZ weather) and wanting to be faster.

Do you run with your wedding/engagement ring on?
Yessem.  I also carry mace so don't get any ideas.

What is your favorite workout? tempo? long run? fartlek? repeats?
I love fartleks and intervals, but my shin has been an issue for awhile. Probably should've seen the doc awhile ago.  I do not recommend self diagnoses or denial.

What is your favorite place to run?
I get creeped out very easily in areas with little going on unless Ben's with me. I like it a bit busier.

Do you use Gu?
No. It is gross. I use Shot Bloks and Sport Beans, etc., and am holding out on Gu as long as possible. We got a TON of free Clif Gels the other day, so I'll probably use em along with the box of GU awaiting my belly, in our pantry.  Or leave them for Ben.  Ben does Gu.

What do you drink to keep hydrated?
Water. Hammer Heed Electrolytes. I'd like to try some new stuff, but not until the Hammer Heed runs out.

What do you take with you on a run? Does it vary by distance?
In the winter I can run almost 10 miles with very little water. Otherwise I carry my hydration belt with my Shot Bloks, Sport Beans, water/electrolytes, cell phone, sometimes camera, and I carry jogger's mace in my right hand. Usually my belt weighs about 3 lbs and it takes some adjusting, but I would have died without it in marathon training.

Feel free to join in!  Happy humpday!

Running Shoes and Shins

I got the Noosas that I've been drooling over!!  I'm thrilled!!  They are beauts, and I'm really excited to take them out for the first time at the track this week.
They glow in the dark in the back and the front for extra safety.
It was actually an adventure to obtain them.  RoadRunner Sports didn't have my size at either store, neither did Sole Sports, and they acted like they were super hard shoes to find!  We called around and FOOTLOCKER had them, of all stores.  We went for the Footlocker rip off price to have them stat since we bought Ben some awesome Kinvara Trail Runners.  :]
These shoes are so fun.  I'm excited to do some speed work in them since they are slightly more neutral than what I've been running in.

Footlocker employees say the funniest things, bless their hearts. lol:

  • "They almost look too big."  -Employee #1 that watched me try to fit my thumb in front of my toe and the edge of the shoe.  (I'm just happy that right now I have all ten toenails.  Like to keep it that way as long as possible.)
  • "Are you going to start running?" -Employee #2
  • "These are really good running shoes.  I tried them on once and they were comfortable."  -Employee #2
Getting new running shoes was really fun and put a smile on my face (thank you Ben!), but I'm still having trouble with my shin.  I have periods of time where I think it's getting better and I get excited, but if I even look at it wrong, then I'm in pain for days regardless of how much icing I do, or how often I live and sleep in my compression socks.  I'm in pain when I wear heels and stretching makes my shin throb.  It's become noticeable just while walking, and I'm logging very little mileage these days and have taken consecutive weeks off completely.  It's not getting better and I'm probably in denial.

I wonder if I may have a stress fracture.  Marathon training should be starting in a couple of weeks, but I'm not feeling very confident anymore.  It's been stressing me out, but we'll get to the bottom of this.

Meanwhile, I do have some pretty new shoes to look forward to breaking in even if I have to take time off.  I'm hoping for good news.  Running is the best!  :]

One more thing, I have this sweet application on my iPad called Shoedometer and it's how I track my mileage on my running shoes.  It makes it easy to remember when you have multiple pair of shoes in the running, and you can take a picture of your shoes to help you remember which shoes are which.
Have a fabulous week!

My Computer Crashed- BLECH

I learned a valuable lesson this week and it was and is to always have your computers backed up.  I always back them up, but sometimes I slack.

Wednesday I decided to re-boot my main work computer.  It is my oldest computer, but my only computer with AutoCAD on it, so it brings in the moola.  I knew its days could be numbered, but I chose to pretend like it would last forever.
It wouldn't boot up.  My blood pressure started to rise (skyrocket!!!!).  At this point I realized that my hard drive may have actually for reals nose dived, and I was trying to remember the last time I backed it up??

I backed it up mid day the day before so I only lost about four hours of work, but the timing couldn't be worse because of my work schedule this month.  I needed to be up and running immediately or risk having my work subbed ($$$) out.

I hopped in the truck and headed to Best Buy and found a new computer.  Then my wallet wasn't in my purse and my day was just getting so super lame.

But it wasn't the complete end of the world after all.  Presenting mister new computer.  :]  My office in SLC overnighted me the discs I need and I am golden.  I am not sure my hard drive tanked, and it may be other hardware issues, but the computer is a dinosaur.  I hope I can just pull the hard drive out of it and throw the rest of it over my balcony, or something totally exciting.
A lesson learned.  I can't imagine those that permanently lose pictures and memories from their hard drives crashing.  Sad days for sure.  That WOULD be the end of the world.

The End.

Just kidding it's not.

To maintain my high standard of scatter brain posts, these are some random odds and ends that I meant to post in June when we went to California.  I have been terrible at taking pictures lately (blaming the heat), but race season starts soon and I definitely will re-introduce the camera at that point.
My sis runs the Tinkerbell 1/2 here in a couple weeks.  So jealous!
We went on a dinner cruise and the captain let us steer the boat around.
This picture below we're trying to jump and make it look like we're standing on the ground.  lol
The End.
For reals this time.

Have a great weekend!  Finally the weekend.
