WEEK 2: Training for a MARATHON (v4.2016 & v5.2016)

Week two of my hammy-rehabbing-to-marathoning was a good week.  I got to run four times, albeit very short distances, but I did get up to a 20:00 stretch of straight running and haven't had any hamstring rebellion.  Hoo-freakin-rah!  I woke up at 6 to do my "long run" and I pretended like it was actually long, and it was the best ever, even though I had to walk the rest of the way home because I ventured too far out from my house.  lol  What I wouldn't give to get to re-live my spring training months...those were some of the very best months of running I've ever had in my life.  Plus with a live-in babysitter at the time, Ben and I got to do our warm-ups together [and slap each other's butts upon passing each other.  ]

I love this guy!!!

We've finally had some monsoons roll in so all week long we've got to enjoy storms, especially on my evening runs since that's when the storms are heaviest.  I even had RAIN DROPS once.

^^Thanks to LipSense I basically always run with lipstick now.

Last night we had a huge monsoon come through and this was a result.  The HOA pulled up right as I took this which I thought was impressive considering it wasn't even 7 the morning after the storm.  We're supposed to get a buncha big storms this weekend!!  I love all the lightning and thunder.

My new pink SHORTS!:

This upcoming week I have a 3.5 mile long run and I am really excited for it!  Especially for the location I'll get to do it in, so here's to another hamstring cooperating training week.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday!

Happiest of BIRTHDAYS to my sweet, sweet husband!!

I'm so grateful you are my husband and I hope you have a fantastic day!!  You are the most hardworking, caring person I know, and Bentz and I are lucky to have you.  We are excited to celebrate the big 3-0 this weekend+!  #forever30

Today's Playlist (My Top Five Songs)

In no particular order (or in order that fit best with the graphic I created for the lists challenge), my top five songs of the moment!  Which is hard.  I'm still not 100% I'd say #4 and #5 are a top five favorite cuz there are so many ties, but #1-3 for sure are, but really, THEY ARE ALL AMAZING.

#1 Begin Again by Knife Party - I have spent many hours running to this one on repeat.  It has an 80s feel to it which might be why I love it so, plus much of my running playlist is Knife Party cuz they are the ultimate running or workout type music.

#2 Catch My Breath by Kelly Clarkson - My all time favorite song since the day it came out.  It is amazing and so is she.  The end.

#3 If Not Now, When? by Incubus - Not an incredible Incubus fan but this one rocks.  It's a little more mellow and has a catchy melody, especially the more you listen to it.

#4 - Wasted Time by Keith Urban - Can't go wrong with the lightheartedness of KEITH.

#5 - Daft Punk by Pentatonix - I even run to this one because Pentatonix is amazing, including their entire Christmas album!!, and this is probably my favorite by them, plus I heard them live in Phoenix, with KELLY, and that was an epic memory (thanks Lands).

24th of July Weekend

I was bummed B3 didn't get to experience a parade on the 4th of July, but this past weekend he got to see one for the 24th of July, aka Pioneer Day!  It's not a holiday that's well celebrated outside of Utah, but Thatcher celebrates it in a huge way so we traveled out there for some family fun.

It was I think something like 106 degrees, but it was nice that that didn't matter.  Everybody was hot together, thus it was fun times.  Bentz waved to the whole parade!!

Naptime is always a fun adventure when we're away, and my sister in-law is the best decorator.

Later the weather was perfect for fireworks! It was B3's first time seeing them and he cried for a minute but then snuggled right up.

Meanwhile I gave into Snapchat thanks to my cute little niece who showed me a ton of the filters.  I don't really think I'll use the app otherwise...

Face swap fail.

I think this celebration will be a tradition.

From Rehabbing to Running

I'm back running and it is the best thing ever!  I have been out in 105+ temps, and incorporating walking breaks while I try to carefully rebuild some of what I've lost, but just being out there makes me remember how much I love to run!  I am pretty paranoid about everything that I'm feeling while running right now, and my butt/hip are awfully tight from all the PT so there's that to work on too, but I am optimistic that my recovery will continue to move forward!

SoOOO my grand plan all along was to get a massively enormously big huge PR  at the Revel Big Cottonwood because I've never run a downhill half marathon!

The problem is downhill + rehabbing hammy = risky.

^^Who wouldn't love running this??

September Utah's Revel Big Cottonwood 1/2 --> October Phoenix YMCA 1/2  (Sorry mom!!! )

My solution was to scratch the 1/2 distance and take aim at building for the marathon, but Charlie coaxed me into picking a 1/2 to substitute, so I found one at South Mountain!  The YMCA 1/2 in 11 weeks.

Meanwhile I have decided to track my training to my next 26.2s how I always do, weekly or bi-weekly!  The difference is this time I'm building from time off, so I'm not sure where that'll get me in 17 weeks.  We shall see!!

This upcoming week I have 15:00 stretches of running without stopping and I believe if all goes well then I'll be able to cut out walking the following week.  Hope so!!!

^^Good morning Saturday!!!

Happy Pioneer Day!!  We just got back from celebrating in Thatcher and oh my gosh it's 8 and I think we're going to go to BED.    As soon as we finish this episode of The Office, of course.

Some Summer Highlights

Presenting the Lego Porsche in its entirety...(!!)  It was a fun summer/one-week project, Lego should come out with another one soon.

Speaking of Porsches, our new ride!!!

Or two!!!

Make it three!!

Just kidding.  In the market for a small SUV, but perhaps one more affordable for starts.  It was like 110 when we took these if you were wondering.

Summertime is awesome even when it gets ridiculous.  The one drawback is scorpions like to come out and remind you that they exist.  Nuclear war could bring our human population back to the prehistoric days, but not scorpions and cockroaches, they'd live on.  They are that hard to get rid of!  But of course I find a way (rocks... are my way.)

I saw this one ^^ on a walk, not at our house.  As far as I know, we're scorpion free.

This summer we added in Sun Basket to our meal planning.  I've mentioned we do and LOVE Blue Apron 3x a week but wanted to explore Sun Basket's paleo meals so we've had them 3x a week for the past couple of weeks too.  Well I must say that I'm impressed.  Paleo has never been so fancy and delicious!!  We hardly go out to eat anymore because we can't wait to cook a meal up.

The Olympic trials ended with a bang last weekend with the rest of track finals and the final night for women's gymnastic.  I'm obsessed with running, but believe it or not gymnastics is my #1 Olympic love.  The team was named and I was off by one guess!  I was hoping for Ashton Locklear to make it over Madison Kocian, but it was pretty evident by the end of trials that Madison was going to be chosen instead, and it was definitely for the best.

Laurie, Aly, Simone, Gabby, Madison
Alternates:  Ashton, Ragan, Mykala (Gilbert girl!)

Now we have to wait for the actual Olympics in a few weeks.

We've been doing a lot of swimming, it's probably the #1 way to survive summer in Arizona.  Since June was so hot, the pool was like a bathtub earlier than usual, so evening swimming has been perfect to avoid sunburning the child.  He LOVES to swim!  Every day when Ben comes home, Bentz runs to him, gets picked up, and then points to the window "shhhshhee."

A couple other shots of the B3 who is nearing two years old and becoming so much fun.  Sometimes we feel like he needs a little play buddy.

Genuine terror after the blender turned on in the background.  I just happened to be taking pictures.  lol

Church has been a little easier lately because B3 likes to go sit with other families and play with their much cooler toys and talk to them.  He never ever sits on the chair when he's with us.

And my last favorite of the summer thus far: my family.  They are pretty epic.  I'm excited to all hang out in a coupla weeks.

Happy summer!!
